We are lucky we have this place. - [Male 3] The food is very colorful. Influence coming from Africa, Asia. We have that all cocktails mixed together. When the sun sets, you enjoy the different colors. Sometimes you just sit there and forget about time. And you will never get bored of it. We are now in the Western Hajar Mountains. You drive from the capital city, which is Muscat, and the landscape just change completely. Great shapes and deep canyons and beautiful cliffs. Everything is working together to make it beautiful. Via Ferrata is an Italian word, and it means the Iron Way, or the Iron Road. A stainless steel cable attached to the rock. When you climb up, behind you is a grand canyon of Arabia. Beautiful views all the way up. - Every place in Oman have different nature. Musandam, this is special because fjords and mountains. I feel myself in a different world. When I'm young, I'm starting to fishing with my family, with my father and my brothers. The fish is important in everything. - Omani food is very diverse. We are blessed and fallen in love with great seafood. We have 1,800 kilometers of coastline. That's if you come this way, but if you do it this way, I think it's 3,200. Traditionally, people would put food in one dish. People would eat together. Food connects people. - [Alshabnooti] When I'm climbing, I feel like I'm free. And it gives me an idea about how small I am on these mountains. We are a mixed culture of people. We are known to be travelers. - [Ahmed Al Shehhi] Every day when I come to the fjords and I go and say, wow. I forget everything behind me. Just I am thinking for this time what I'm living. - [Aisari] Oman, actually all of Oman is nice and beautiful. - [Alshabnooti] Mountains and desert and beaches everywhere. The landscapes inspire me a lot because it's just beautiful.

On the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, the Torajan people believe that a person is not truly dead until water buffalo have been sacrificed at their funeral, serving as the vehicle to the afterlife. Until that time, the bodies are may be kept at the family's home for weeks, months or years and are fed and cared for as if they were alive. Some Torajans continue their relationship with the dead through a ma'nene' ceremony, a type of "second funeral" in which families bring out their ancestors every few years and change their clothes and clean their bodies and crypts. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe #NationalGeographic #Death #Indonesia About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Vintage National Geographic Magazines

05:09
Vintage National Geographic magazines ranging from 1964-1974. I found these in a travel trailer I got for free a few years ago. These have some interesting articles in them, but in this video, I mainly just show the ads. By the way, these magazines have a LOT of ads in them! Back in the day, it must have been so irritating to get these, only to find out only half the magazine has actual content. Oh well, it's fun to look at the ads 40-50 years later!

THE WAYFINDERS by WADE DAVIS: https://amzn.to/2O9v2UV SIGN UP FOR MY NEWSLETTER: http://eepurl.com/gdR76X This month's non-fiction selection was a major influence both me and Vagabrothers - "The Wayfinders" by National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Wade Davis. If you are interested in other cultures, this book will blow your mind. Wade Davis is an anthropologist with an adventurer's spirit and a poet's heart, and he's spent his whole life traveling the world and documenting the world's many cultures - and how they are disappearing faster than most of us realize. This book is a celebration of cultural diversity, a critique of "progress" that causes cultures to vanish, and a call to action to stop it. I created this channel as a way to share ideas and spread positivity on YouTube. You might have seen the travel channel I run with my brother, Vagabrothers. This channel is another side of my personality - the stuff that doesn't make the travel vlogs. This channel is a place where I share my favorite books in the Marko Book Club, discuss personal growth in Conscious Conversations, men's issues in Modern Masculinity, and video essays on Marko's Monologues. My goal with all these verticals is to spur thought and exchange ideas in an uplifting forum. Thanks for watching, and if you have any questions or comments please email me at [email protected]

How Spiders Use Electricity to Fly | Decoder

03:31
Can spiders fly? When you think of the greatest aviators in the natural world, you probably think of the usual winged suspects like birds, bees, and butterflies. But some of the earth's eight-legged creatures also have specialized ways of soaring through the skies—no wings necessary. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe #NationalGeographic #Spiders #Decoder About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. In fact, some of the longest arachnid flights lasted for thousands of miles. Today, scientists widely debate the exact science behind spiders' ballooning, but one prominent theory suggests that spiders could be using the electric field in earth's atmosphere, in addition to the wind, to provide lift to their silk strands and send them sailing away. Discover the amazing aerodynamics of spiders' wingless flight in this latest video from Decoder. For more, read "Soaring Spiders" from the May 2019 issue of National Geographic magazine. The ceaseless roar of the sind was my lullaby; the cool, glacial breeze was my blanket. Eventually, as Maclean wrote, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. That river now runs through the caverns of my mind, and it has trouts swimming upstream to greet me. Venky Vembu "Outlook Traveller Anniversary Special"

News National Geographic rates Phuket in serious trouble

The well known National Geographic Traveler website & magazine's November edition highlights 522 experts votes on 111 islands around the world. To see how the integrity of these islands around the world is holding up, Traveler and National Geographic Center for Sustainable Destinations conducted this fourth annual Destination Scorecard survey, aided by George Washington University. The scores that followed reflected the experts' opinions, on a scale of 100 or Enhanced to 0 (zero) or Catastrophic. Faroe Islands in Denmark was top with a score of 87. Phuket scored only 46. It was 106th or 6th from bottom. Some quoted phrases from their remarks on Phuket suggest their thinking behind the scores: quote "Chaotic development. The Thai people do not realize what a beautiful island we have. They continue to over-exploit all the island's resources. We missed the window of opportunity after the 2004 tsunami to clean out illegal coastal development." unquote --- but to find out some responses to that survey, we asked some tourists and the Patong Deputy Mayor how they rated Phuket's environment out of 100, and what they thought yesterday, which was also the first good weather day of the high season. Let's hear what they said: .........
